DIRTY PINK

← Back to the Portfolio

DIRTY PINK celebrates the artistic work and connections that have grown out of an international, all women group of contemporary artists known collectively as; “Colonia Roma”, who meet in Valencia, Spain, to support each others own practice as well as research and discuss female art practice both contemporary and historical. This fluid collective, containing a mixture of trained and self taught artists, is a fascinating microcosm of artistic styles and practices.

Through the alchemy of discovery, debate and sharing, new collaborations and connections have grown between the artists themselves as well as the community at large. Curated by artist and Colonia Roma member, Tina McCallan, she has also invited female artists who are historically significant to her practise and who operate in the wider International art scenes such as London and Berlin. Increasingly, Valencia is proving to be a magnet for artists and ex-pats alike and, like the city, this show has a global outlook, containing work by artists from the U.S.A, The U.K. and  Spain

Diverse artistic approaches are represented within the show while a variety of issues are addressed, some specific to being a woman artist. Many of the works deal with the idea of perfection and imperfection. Questions raised by the show include: Is gender a performance? Is there a female or feminist aesthetic? To what extent does being a woman impact or inform your practice?

Scheduled to open in June 2020, at The R.W. Project, during Russafart Valencia, Spain. For sponsorship opportunities please contact: tinamccallan(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)me.com
